At a starting price of INR 9.99 Lakh, the Mahindra Marazzo comes across as a very tough contender in the people carrier segment in India. The case for Mahindra’s all-new MPV becomes even stronger when you consider the amount of kit that the company is offering with this vehicle. The Shark inspired Mahindra Marazzo is going to retail in India in a total of four variants. And right from the base variant one gets power windows, central locking, roof-mounted air-con vents and all the standard safety kit like dual airbags, ABS, EBD and rear parking sensors. In fact, what you are getting is a proper 7-seater MPV for the same price as that of the Hyundai Creta!

The top of the line M8 trim is off-course the fully loaded trim which offers features like dual-barrel LED projector headlamps, cornering lamps, 16-inch diamond cut alloy wheels, automatic climate control, touchscreen infotainment system, cruise control, leather upholstery and the lot. At the time of launch, Mahindra is offering the Marazzo only with a diesel engine. The engine in question is an all-new 1.5-litre oil-burner which can churn out 120 BHP of power along with 300 NM of peak torque. For now, this engine will retail paired alongside a six-speed manual transmission. This new diesel powertrain can be tuned for BS-VI regulations.

The homegrown automaker has said that the Marazzo is going to get a petrol derivative directly in the BS-VI guise. And with the launch of the gasoline motor, the automaker will also introduce an automatic gearbox in this MPV.

From an aesthetic point of view, the Marazzo looks quite dominating. It gets a familiar Mahindra fascia with a large grille that comes with chrome studded, Shark teeth inspired highlights. Flanking its edges are two side-swept headlamps which add to the MPV’s overall appeal. From the side, the MPV looks quite contemporary with nice creases and curves. In fact, the sharp aesthetics are a welcome delight as MPV tend to look rather bland from the side. At the back, the Shark inspired theme continues with the large tail-lamps.

Talking about the onboard features in detail, the Mahindra Marazzo offers 16-inch alloy wheels, projector headlamps, LED daytime running lights, 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system, cruise control, connectivity through Apple Car Play as well as Android Auto, leather upholstery to name a few.

Mahindra states that the Marazzo will be amongst the safest vehicles currently on sale in India. It meets all the new safety regulations which come into effect starting 2020. The body shell of this MPV is in tune with full frontal impact, front off-set impact, side impact as well as is compatible with pedestrian protection. As standard, the Mahindra Marazzo comes with dual-front airbags, ABS with EBD, ISOFIX child seat mounts, reverse parking sensors and an emergency call feature in case of an impact. Surprisingly, this MPV does not offer side and curtain airbags even as an option on the top spec variants.
