The Honda
BR-V will be launched in India next month and will be offered with the
same petrol engine as is offered in Thailand. Also on offer will be the
1.5-litre i-DTEC four-cylinder diesel engine that makes 100 PS and 200 Nm
of torque in the Honda Mobilio. The petrol engine may be offered with a 5 or 6 speed
manual transmission or a continuously variable transmission or both, while the
diesel engine will likely be linked to a 6-speed manual transmission.
In a crash testing done by the New Car Assessment Program for Southeast
Asian Countries (ASEAN NCAP), the Honda
BR-V has recorded the maximum
safety rating. The 5-star rating for Adult Occupant Protection is only for the
trim levels fitted with Electronic Stability Control (ESC) and Seatbelt
Reminder System (SBR) for both frontal occupants, the ones not having these
features receive 4-star rating for Adult Occupant Protection. Both trim levels
tested have been given 4-star rating for Child Occupant Protection.
The Honda BR-V‘s
safety and assistance features include Advanced Compatibility Engineering (ACE)
body structure, dual front SRS airbags, Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Vehicle
Stability Assist (VSA), Hill Start Assist (HSA), Electronic Stability Control
(ESC), Seatbelt Reminder System (SBR) and reversing camera. Under the hood, the
Honda BR-V is powered by a 1.5-litre i-VTEC four-cylinder petrol engine which
produces 86 kW (115 hp) and 146 Nm of torque. Power is sent to the wheels via a
continuously variable transmission.
The
Honda BR-V will rival Hyundai Creta, Renault Duster and Mahindra Scorpio. The expected price is INR 8.5-11.5 lakhs, ex-Showroom.
