Following the launch of the GLE 450 AMG Coupe
and The E-Class Edition E, Mercedes Benz today
launched the Mercedes S400 variant of the Mercedes S-Class saloon in India. It
is priced at INR 1.31 crores ex-showroom Hyderabad, and will be locally
assembled at the company’s Chakan plant.
The S400 competes against the other two German
super luxury sedans, the BMW 7 series and the Audi A8L.
Under
the hood the Mercedes S400 is powered by a 3.0-litre V6 petrol engine that
produces 245 KW (333 hp) at 5,250-6,000 RPM and 480 Nm of torque at 1,600-4,000
RPM. The engine is mated to the 7G-TRONIC PLUS 7-speed automatic transmission.
The
salient features of the Mercedes S400 include ambient lighting with 7
different colours and 5 dimming levels, COMAND infotainment system, 24-speaker
Burmester 3D surround sound system and massage seats. Safety systems and
driving assistance technologies include 8 airbags, ESP, PRE-SAFE, Dynamic
cornering control system, Brake Assist, Adaptive Brake with HOLD Function, ASR
Hill Start Assist, 360 Degree Surround View Camera and an Active Park Assist.
Mercedes
sells its S-Class luxury sedan in four variants – S500, S350, the VR9 certified
S-Guard and the more recently launched VR10 certified Maybach S600 Guard. The
S400 though is for those customers who do not want a diesel or the excessive
S500 with the enormous V8.
