BMW X1 2016: A Review

BMW's smallest SUV is back, bigger, better to drive and more beautiful than before!!!

The BMW X1 2016 is expected to make its debut in India at the 2016 Auto Expo and it appears the manufacturer has got really busy preparing the new model for its Indian launch. The new generation X1 was recently spotted, being tested on Indian roads alongside the next generation 7 Series. The second-generation X1 and the new 7-Series are the two key launches planned by BMW India for the year 2016. Clearly, the X1 will bring more volumes than the new 7.  In India, the new 2016 BMW X1 could have a starting price of roughly INR 28 lacs.

Despite being branded as having challenging styling, the original BMW X1 built up a loyal following, so you’d expect BMW not to change the recipe too much. Well, you’d be wrong, as the new second-generation X1 has started with a totally clean sheet of paper. The styling is now more in step with BMW’s other SUVs, and ditches the pumped-up estate-car looks of the old version. It’s taller and gets a longer wheelbase (but it is in fact slightly shorter than the old X1), which allows the new car to be much more spacious inside than its predecessor, and from many angles the X1 now looks like a mini-X5.

It will become the first BMW-branded model to have a front-wheel drive configuration (the current X1 has a rear-wheel drive layout). Based on the UKL platform, the new X1 is as much as 135 kgs lighter than the last generation model. For India, BMW is expected to offer the new generation X1 with a 2.0-litre 4-cylinder Twin Power turbocharged engine that will be mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission. The motor is expected to produce around 150 bhp.

This car will compete with the Mercedes-Benz GLA-Class and the Audi Q3.
